A fully equipped yoga studio

Yoga St Lucia is a fully equipped yoga studio and the first privately owned Yoga studio in St Lucia. We are located at the north of the island in Rodney Bay behind Harmony Marine Suites Hotel.

We teach Hatha Yoga in the Iyengar style. BKS Iyengar is considered to be one of the greatest Yogi’s of our time and foremost authority on Hatha Yoga in the world until his death in 2014. He was one of the earliest Yogis to bring Yoga to the United States and the west. It is the worlds most widely practiced method of Yoga.

Iyengar teachers are highly qualified and undergo a strict and in-depth training for 6 years before going for certification. After the first certification, training continues according to the standards and supervision of the Iyengar family of Pune, India. This maintains the growth of the teacher and the teaching.Yoga St Lucias teachers study continually to work toward higher qualifications and certifications by going through workshops, teacher training and classes yearly with more senior teachers of the Iyengar method. Our teachers have a deep commitment to excellence in teaching.

Iyengar Yoga comes from the most classical Hatha Yoga traditions. It focuses on alignment, precision and detail in the performance of each posture. There is a great amount of attention paid to the technical alignment of each pose. It is a method which is easily understood by any practitioner, it is for anyone and everyone. It is about the quality of movement to encourage safety throughout the practice We use props such as blankets, blocks, chairs, bolsters and straps, which assists the student of any age or disability to get into a pose without injury, and to gain the correct alignment suitable for their individual bodies. It is a method of Yoga which is accessible to all.

The elderly, those with injuries or just growing pains from age are welcome to come to our classes. Iyengar Yoga is a therapeutic Yoga and most who practice it see amazing results in just a short period of time. The elderly move, focus and balance better. Those with injuries feel the therapeutic affects as they strengthen and bring alignment to the injured areas of the body so that they can heal in less time. General pain is lessened or alleviated.

A well qualified Iyengar teacher will provide a clear demonstration, explanation and individual correction and adjustment when necessary.

A beginner class will teach the standing poses first so that the student learns the basic fundamentals of each pose and how to adjust and align the body correctly. Standing postures form the foundation of the practice of Yoga, they strengthen the student, create stamina, flexibility and relieve stress.

When students have learned the basic fundamentals of each pose they can move on to forward bends, twists, inversions, backbends and restorative poses.

People who do Yoga are just younger in general. As the body becomes stronger, gains flexible, along with stamina, the mind becomes more peaceful and focused, stressful situations aren’t so stressful, and life just becomes better.
